Middlesboro man runs over deputy’s foot while fleeing
BELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A routine traffic safety checkpoint turned dangerous Saturday night in Bell County when a Middlesboro man allegedly ran over a deputy’s foot and fled the scene.
According to the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Shane Ray gave deputies false information at the checkpoint before speeding off, injuring Deputy Chris Owens in the process.
Authorities say Ray then led officers on a pursuit down Highway 25E and even swerved at a deputy’s cruiser before being boxed in and arrested.
Ray is facing several charges, including assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, and drug trafficking.
Deputy Owens was treated at a hospital and later released. Ray is being held at the Bell County Detention Center.
