Middle school student found with gun at school in Estill County
The weapon was first spotted by a student on the bus who reported it to school officials
IRVINE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A middle school was taken into custody on Wednesday after bringing a gun to school in Estill County, according to the school district.
Superintendent Jeff Saylor says a high school student told his principal he saw a middle school student with a gun on the school bus.
Saylor says the middle school and law enforcement were immediately notified, the student was identified and isolated from the rest of the students. The school was placed on ‘soft lockdown,’ which means all students remained in their current classes.
Saylor says after the student was interviewed and the student’s property searched, a weapon was found and secured by district personnel.
The student was taken into custody by Estill County Sheriff’s deputies as the investigation by the school district and law enforcement continues.
Due to the student’s age, no name was released.
