Mexican news site: 2nd journalist slain in less than a month

An online news site based in the beachside community of Playa del Carmen says its director has been shot to death.

Playa News Aqui y Ahora said Tuesday that Ruben Pat Cauich was the second journalist for the news site to have been killed in less than a month.

Pat Cauich was killed on a street in Playa del Carmen, a resort town on Mexico‘s Caribbean coast.

The site wrote in a statement “Now it is two from our team, Governor, when will the lack of public safety in our state end?”

In June, a gunman killed Playa News police reporter Jose Guadalupe Chan Dzib at a bar.

More than 30 journalists have been killed in Mexico in the past 5 ½ years.
