Mercer schools adding counselors after fire killed student

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)-Scarlett Cloyd was 12-years-old. An online fundraiser for her funeral costs describes her as a “…vibrant and active 7th grader at King Middle School”.

Her family members say they were busy planning her 13th birthday party, but now they’re unexpectedly planning her funeral instead.

Another fundraiser online is for her family member 24-year-old Haley Stratton and her son, 10-month-old Layne Gastineau.

That fundraiser says “she loved her sweet boy and he loved his momma”.

It also says neither of them had life insurance.

Firefighters say the fire that killed all three broke out Saturday morning at a home near Highway 1108.
