Mercer County Officials Investigate Taser In School

Harrodsburg, Ky. (WTVQ) –  Mercer County officials are investigating a report of handheld tasers being brought onto school property.  Below is a letter sent by the Mercer County Schools Superintendent to students, parents, and staff.

Important Notice – District Letter Regarding High School Incident

In efforts to make you aware of a situation that involved our students’ safety, this morning, students reported to the high school administrators that another student had two handheld tasers at school.

All matters of student safety are taken seriously. The school administration, Superintendent, and Harrodsburg Police Department immediately began an investigation. During the investigation, the administration confiscated two box type tasers. It was determined that it was not the student’s intent to harm or threaten others. Regardless, of intent, this matter is being taken very seriously.

Please know that school officials are handling this incident according to the Mercer Code of Acceptable Behavior and the Mercer School Board Policy 05.48, State, and Federal laws.

We greatly appreciate the students who have provided us with the information necessary to investigate this situation and keep our students safe.

Parents, please help us make students aware that bringing any weapons to school is taken very seriously. The board polices, State, and Federal laws are very clear on consequences for such incidents/occurrences.
