Mercer County handing out bottled water
HARRODSBURG, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Mercer County residents are running on the city’s stored water supply, which officials say will not last throughout the entire day. According to the City of Harrodsburg, the water treatment plant had to be shut down, prompting the urgent call for conservation.
In response, officials are distributing bottled water to Mercer County residents only at the Mercer County Fairgrounds. The distribution is happening today until 7 p.m.
Authorities are asking everyone in the area to conserve water to the “greatest extent possible” to help stretch the remaining supply.
According to the City of Harrodsburg, once their water treatment facility comes back online, both the city and county will be placed under a boil water advisory. Residents will be required to boil water before drinking or using it for cooking until officials declare it safe.
