Men who found lost camper speak

WOLFE CO., Ky. (WTVQ) – Chris and Ronnie Halsey, the two men who found lost camper Josh Adkins, say they couldn’t believe what they were seeing when they ran across him.

The Halseys say they were driving down Highway 15 when they noticed Adkins, and recognized him from from a missing persons flyer that had been passed out earlier in the week.

"When we pulled up on him, I opened the door and I got out and asked him, ‘you need some help?’," says Chris Halsey.  "He said, ‘I think I’m lost.’ I said, ‘Are you Josh Adkins?’ and he said, ‘Yeah.’"

Adkins had last been seen Saturday, August 1, when he disappeared from his campsite into the surrounding woods of Red River Gorge.  His disappearance instigated a massive search, involving hundreds of people, dogs, and even drones.  On Saturday the search had been called off for Adkins, with search and rescue teams fearing the worst.

Adkins told searchers he had survived by eating corn, apples and drinking water from the creek, trying desperately to find his way out of the forest for 11 days.
