WINCHESTER, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Family and friends will gather Saturday to remember 35-year-old Ava Shayne Alan Brantley, who police say was killed in a murder-suicide in Winchester last week.
A celebration of life will be held at Leon Pace Memorial Chapel, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m.
According to the Winchester Police Department, 38-year-old Tyler Snowden shot and killed Brantley at her home on West Side Drive before taking his own life.
Loved ones describe Brantley as a free spirit who was deeply devoted to her four children.
In the days since her death, more than 1,300 people have signed an online petition inspired by her story, calling for stronger protections for domestic violence victims. The proposal seeks a mandatory 24- to 48-hour detainment period for anyone with a history of domestic violence after an emergency protective order is filed, giving victims more time to seek safety.
Police say the investigation into the case is ongoing.
