Memorial service held in Richmond to honor fallen officers including Dep. Caleb Conley

RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A remembrance was held on Tuesday in Richmond for a fallen Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley, who was shot and killed just over a year ago during a traffic stop.
Community members gathered to honor Conley and other officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

“To Scott County Deputy Conley was the best role model for their children,” said Gov. Andy Beshear who was the keynote speaker in the event.

It’s now been more than a year since the death of Deputy Conley.
On May 22, 2023 Conley was responding to a traffic stop when he was shot and killed.

“I understand that grief is tough, especially when you lose someone dramatically. Some days it feels like 10 years ago, and other days it feels like 10 minutes ago,” added Beshear.

Governor Beshear highlighted Conley’s character, describing him as someone who cared for his community and his country.

“If someone sacrificed their life in the line of duty, it is our job to find that history and to make sure that it’s told and to make sure that they are recognized,” said Beshear.

Katie Ellis DeSimone is the widow of fallen Richmond police officer, Daniel Ellis.
Back in 2015, Ellis was injured in the line of duty and days later he died.

“Loss can only be described as brutal beyond imagination. It is a pain that no human should ever have to feel it’s lonely and honestly feels like you might not make it to the next day. There is no quick remedy or cure for the pain. But remember, there’s always hope,” she says.

Ellis DeSimone spoke on living life without her bestfriend and how every day she would give anything to have Ellis again.

“But I would never give up the love we shared to save my heart the grief,” added Ellis DeSimone.

The man accused of shooting and killing Scott County deputy Caleb Conley, Steven Sheanshang will be in court next month.
He faces various charges in several counties.
