Memorial Day dedication for Kentucky National Guard Memorial

FRANKFORT (WTVQ) – The new Kentucky National Guard Memorial received its dedication ceremony at 2 p.m., coinciding with the Memorial Day holiday.

Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen was joined by Adjutant General Edward W. Tonini at Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort. Hundreds of current and former Citizen Soldiers and Airmen were also in attendance to witness the ceremony.

Built to honor the Citizen Soldiers and Airmen who have given their lives in defense of our nation both at home and overseas, the Kentucky National Guard Memorial featured more than 230 of these names, dating back until 1912.

Ten years in the making, It also spotlighted soil from all 120 Kentucky counties, to honor Kentucky National Guard for being the state’s “hometown defense force.”

The ceremony included an artillery battery salute, and was funded from generous private donations and corporate grants.
