Meet Player 101, the Squid Game: the Challenge contestant from Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — If you haven’t seen Netflix’s latest original Squid Game: The Challenge, Kentuckians, you may want to give it a try — you might see a familiar face playing for the big cash prize.

Kyle, better known as Player 101 in the show, is from Floyd County in Kentucky.

The 30-year-old works in customer services and chose to come on the show as one of 456 players vying for the $4.56 million prize.

In his monologues with the Netflix crew, he touched on assumptions other players may have of him.

“I will say that, no matter what, the mullet, the redneck, the country accent, in my opinion, is always viewed as maybe a little bit more less intelligent than possibly other northern or even western of Kentucky kind of states,” he said.

Early on, Kyle connected with Dani, fellow Player 134, and Stephen, fellow Player 243.

During the competition, Kyle said he planned on “surveying the competition for weaknesses and is prepared to give people the cold shoulder when the time is right.”

The competition show has 10 episodes where contestants take on “deadly” challenges — some from the original Korean drama Squid Game and some new.

The game kicked off with hundreds of contestants playing the infamous Red Light, Green Light contest.

Other notable games featured in the series include Dalgona, Marbles and the Glass Bridge.

The show features dramatic behavior, backstabbing and shocking twists.

In the last episode, the final three contestants battle for the money, leaving the remaining two to face off.

We won’t tell you the result; you’ll have to watch to see if Kyle makes it to the end!
