Meet Lexington’s new Parks and Rec Director

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington’s Division of Parks and Recreation has a new director and she’s hitting the ground running.

In late May, the mayor named Monica Conrad as the city’s new Director of Parks and Recreation. She previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Parks, the city says. Conrad has worked for Kentucky Parks since 2004, holding a variety of positions.

She told ABC 36’s Paris Lewbel that one of her biggest plans is to get the community involved in making decisions about the parks in their neighborhood.

“We can’t plan without the community’s involvement,” Conrad says. “We need to know what their needs are and what they desire to see in their backyard.”

Conrad says the best way to contact the Division of Parks and Recreation is on their website or on Facebook.

On Wednesday, the city launched its first major community outreach effort for the input on Lexington’s pools. More information on that can be found here.
