MedToss Event Collects Prescription Drugs

One medication dating back to the 1920s was turned in Saturday during the prescription drug drop-off at the Kentucky American Water location on Richmond Road.

Kentucky American Water partnered with the Lexington Police and other local agencies on MedToss, a free event to collect and dispose of no-longer-needed medications in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

MedToss is held in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The effort helps to keep drugs out of the wrong hands and out of our nation’s waterways.

Medications are sorted and prepared for disposal and later transported out of state for proper incineration.

Participants were asked to remove or mark out all personal information on containers before dropping them off. Radioactive drugs were not accepted.
