Medication Disposal Program Collects 500,000 pills

More than 75,000 unused prescription pills are now safe after a "Medication Disposal" program in Frankfort on Saturday.

The Frankfort Police Department said 80 cars dropped off the medications into a drug take-back station. Police say this is the 14th event they have held, which has collected more than a half a million medications total. Saturday’s collection weighed 292 pounds.

Police said they dispose of the medications in an environmentally friendly manner.
