Mayor Blasts Kentucky American Rate Hike Plan
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray blasted the Kentucky-American Water Company for its plans to raise water rates.
The company wants to raise rates by 14 percent.
If the hike is approved, a customer paying $32 a month would have to pay about $38.
The Public Service Commission agree to the plan.
During a public hearing Tuesday about the plan, Gray said it was a bad business decision by Kentucky American Water and that was bad for the people of Lexington.
He also said water rates have gone up 71% in six years and that the treatment plant built in Owen county was a mistake.
He urged the Public Service Commission to reject Kentucky-American’s request for the new rate increase.
