Mayor announces new Lexington police chief
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington has a new police chief.
Mayor Jim Gray announced Monday Lawrence Weathers, a former assistant police chief, will be the new chief of the Lexington Police Department.
He is replacing Mark Barnard, who retired from the position on January 7.
Weathers retired from the department back in 2016 after 27 years of service.
He started with the Lexington Police Department in 1989, where he worked in several division including patrol, narcotics, internal affairs, training, special operations and in community services as a D.A.R.E. officer.
Weathers is currently serving as the head of security for the Fayette County school district.
His first day as police chief is set for March 5.
