Masterson Station Starting Neighborhood Watch
People in Masterson Station say they want to be proactive rather than reactive. About 45 people met to discuss how to make their neighbor hood better.
Police say car break-ins in Masterson Station, compared to this time last year, are up.
Allison Gardner woke up Tuesday, and found her car broken into.
"I just kind of felt like I was violated. I did have some pictures of my kids and things like that in the car, so I do feel violated. Obviously there were things with my name on it and address, just a little scary," said Gardner.
Last week, somebody spread KKK flyers throughout the neighborhood.
"It’s just crazy that somebody would come through here, and throw things like that. That appalled me. I was sickened to my stomach. For someone to do that is just awful," said Susan Clark, who lives in Lexington.
Overall, Masterson Station’s crime rate is about average for Lexington.
When many people hear the words neighborhood watch, they think of George Zimmerman.
"People are people, and you just gotta be paying attention to what’s going on, but I don’t want my child to be a target, and that was very important to come here tonight to make sure that my neighborhood is safe," said Yolanda Costner.
Police say a neighborhood watch member should be on the look out, but not should not intervene. Instead, call police.
