Martin Luther King Citizenship Award recipient announced

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A Madisonville man is being presented with the Martin Luther King Citizenship Award on Thursday in Frankfort.

The Kentucky Human Rights Commission says state Human Rights Commissioner Timothy W. Thomas of Madisonville is the recipient of the annual award by the Kentucky Martin Luther King Jr. Commission.

The Human Rights Commission says Thomas is in his third term on the commission and also serves on the African American Heritage Commission. He is president of the Hopkins County Joint Planning Commission and a member of the Madisonville-Hopkins County NAACP.

The award is being presented during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration at 4 p.m. EST at the Thomas D. Clark Center for History.

Gov. Steve Beshear and Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen are among the dignitaries participating at the event.
