Manhunt for suspect in fatal shooting of Tennessee deputy
DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a Tennessee sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed was responding to a call by a resident about a suspicious car.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Niland said at a news conference that the Dickson County deputy couldn’t be contacted Wednesday for some time after responding to the call. The deputy’s car was then tracked by GPS to a location 2 or 3 miles away, and the deputy was found dead inside of it. The deputy’s name has not been released.
Niland says the suspect was captured on video. Authorities have identified him as Steven Joshua Wiggins. They say he’s still at large and is believed to be armed and dangerous. State, federal and local authorities have launched a manhunt, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has announced a reward of up to $2,500 for any information leading to his arrest.
Niland says a female is being interviewed in the case.
