Man killed in early morning mass shooting identified

UPDATE – 08/09/24: The safety of the community remains the department’s foremost priority, and the preliminary investigation suggests that there is no ongoing threat to the public related to the homicide and shooting that occurred at El Cid on National Avenue.

Detectives are following up on any leads and information. With the investigation in its early stages, the Lexington Police Department is limited in the information it has to release. As information becomes available, the department will send out additional news releases and update the public on social media.

 

UPDATE: The Fayette County Coroner says the shooting victim who died was 31-year-old Antoine Clay. The coroner says Clay died of a gunshot wound, and ruled the death a homicide.

An autopsy on Clay will take place Friday (8/09) at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Lexington Police Department is currently investigating a homicide and multiple shootings that occurred early Friday morning on National Avenue.

According to a release from the Lexington Police Department, officers were sent to the 700 block of National Avenue at approximately 12:19 a.m. on August 9, 2024, in response to reports of a shooting. When they got there, officers discovered six individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately taken to a local hospital.

Tragically, one male victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other five victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and no suspect information has been made available. The Lexington Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward.
