Man hospitalized after Montgomery County plane crash

MT. STERLING, Ky. (WTVQ)- A man has been flown to UK Hospital after his plane made a hard landing during an emergency.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge, the pilot took off from Powell County early Saturday morning. He says it is not clear where the pilot was headed.

Officials say the plane’s engine failed, forcing an emergency landing in a field off Tapp Lane, near Spencer Road, in Mt. Sterling.

The pilot suffered injuries to his legs and back, as well as cuts across his face. The sheriff says it is fortunate that the man was able to crawl out of the wreckage by himself.

“He did exit the plane and I’m assuming somebody may have seen him on the side of the road who called it in. I cannot verify that yet, but that’s a possibility of what happened,” said Shortridge.

Officials are waiting for the Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) to arrive on scene to further investigate the crash.
