James Hendron case returns to court amid legal battles over 2018 murder conviction

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – James Hendron was back in court Thursday for a status hearing, nearly seven years after being found guilty in the shooting death of his son, Austin Hendron.

A jury convicted Hendron of murder in 2018 and recommended a life sentence. But the case has been tied up in ongoing legal battles. A judge initially granted him a new trial — a decision that was later overturned by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

Now, Hendron’s attorney is asking the state Supreme Court to review the case.
