Man changing tire suffers gunshot wounds, no suspects
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man in his 20’s is shot while preparing to change a tire on his car, according to Lexington Police.
The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting that happened at about 11:40 a.m. outside an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Devonport Drive. The victim was found outside Building J where he’d apparently fled from the gun fire, police said.
At least three cars, including a Dodge Challenger, were hit by gunfire and several shell casings were found in the street, according to police. Officers would not disclose the caliber of the weapon.
A witness said the man was changing his tire when the shooting occurred, police said, noting a tire iron was found on his car, which was among those damaged. Police said they weren’t sure if the man lived at the complex because the address they have listed for him is elsewhere.
The victim was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center but was not cooperating with investigators about who might have shot him or vehicle descriptions, police said. The area is densely populated with a number of retail businesses also nearby, leading to heavy traffic during the day and police said they aren’t sure of possible suspect vehicles or suspects.
Another assault call on nearby Cambridge Drive just moments before the shoots fired call are not thought to be related, police said.
