Man arrested, teen charged in shooting of another teen
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Williamsburg man was arrested along with a 15-year old London girl in connection to the shooting of another teen in Laurel County, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say a 16-year old girl was driving a Hyundai passenger car on Fiechter Lane, just north of London, around 12:15 p.m. on Memorial Day.
Investigators say 25-year old Shawn Perkins was a passenger in the front seat and there was a 15-year old girl in the backseat.
Deputies say Perkins allowed the teenager in the backseat to handle a loaded high point 9mm handgun. Investigators say while the girl was handling the weapon, it went off, with the bullet striking the teen driver in the back. She was airlifted to UK Hospital in Lexington with a gunshot wound described as “serious.”
Investigators say Perkins was arrested and charged with unlawfully permitting a minor to possess a handgun, which is a felony. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center in London.
Deputies say the 15-year old girl who shot the other teen, was charged with assault, wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a minor. The first two listed charges are felonies. Her name was not released because she’s a minor.
