Man Arrested in Stolen Car Case, Then Charged for Alleged Involvement in February Murder
Lexington Police tell ABC 36 they have captured a man who reportedly stole a car Thursday morning, only to discover he was also allegedly involved in a murder.
According to officers, Lamarius Gates, 19, stands accused of complicity to commit murder in a February shooting on Lima Drive that killed Vincenzio Happy.
The accused gunman, 22-year-old Jayronn Nickerson, was arrested in Michigan nearly three months ago.
Officials said they spotted Gates and another man in a stolen car Thursday afternoon and then tried to pull the vehicle over, but the car wouldn’t stop.
According to police, the car reached a dead end and Gates and the other man ran off.
However, police said Gates was caught while trying to hop a fence.
In addition to the complicity to commit murder charge, Gates is accused of receiving stolen property, fleeing and evading police, and drug possession.
