RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Richmond police arrested a 21-year-old man Sunday evening following a carjacking tied to a Facebook Marketplace sale.

Police say the incident began Saturday afternoon on Jason Drive, where two people met to exchange vehicles. During a test drive, the suspect — identified as Jadon Carter of Richmond — allegedly pulled a gun and ordered the victims out before driving off.

Minutes later, dispatch received calls about a hit-and-run on Circle Drive. Witnesses also reported hearing a gunshot nearby.

With help from EKU Police, Kentucky State Police, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, officers set up a perimeter and arrested Carter after spotting him running near Merchant and Duckhorn drives. A loaded firearm was found nearby.

Carter is charged with carjacking and multiple other offenses and is being held at the Madison County Detention Center.

Police are reminding the public to use caution when meeting strangers for online sales and note that monitored exchange areas are available outside the Richmond Police Department.
