Man admits not reporting father’s death to collect SS checks
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Pike County man admits he didn’t report his father’s death and collected his Social Security checks for nearly a decade, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The newspaper reports William Cummins pleaded guilty to stealing $115,172 from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
As part of his plea deal, Cummins has to make restitution, according to the report.
Investigators say Cummins collected his late father’s government checks from late 2008 up until March 2018.
The report says Cummins accessed his dad’s account online and changed the direct deposit information. It says he also used a debit card authorized through the SSA.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in August. He’s being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
