Man Accused Of Stealing Credit Cards In Lexington In Court Thursday
Police said David Brumett stole those cards from women’s wallets at Target, Walmart, Whole Foods and Fayette Mall.
Court documents show Brumett faces nine charges for the thefts happened between October 26 and November 6.
Officers said Brumett used those cards to buy gift cards at several Speedway stores.
Police said they found him by tracing the rewards card he used to buy those gift cards. They also looked at surveillance video.
They said he also used one of the credit cards and his own driver’s license at a hotel.
The Federal Trade Commission has the following tips for keeping your information safe:
-Carry your cards separately from your wallet. That can minimize loss if your wallet is stolen.
-Do not carry all of your cards together. Only take what you need for one trip.
-When making a transaction, watch your card and make sure to get it back before you leave.
-Keep an eye on your accounts. Report anything you think may be suspicious.
-Never sign a blank receipt. Draw a line through any blank spaces around the total.
