Man accused in Memorial Day cross destruction offers apology

HENDERSON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The man accused of plowing through a park in Henderson Co. and destroying several memorial crosses is apologizing.

Henderson police arrested 27-year old Anthony Burrus for driving through 160 veteran crosses at Central Park over the weekend.

The crosses were there to memorialize deceased Henderson Co. veterans.

Burrus says he doesn’t remember anything from that day but admits surveillance video indicates he was driving the car that went through the park.

He says he wants to make it right.

“This was an accident,” says Burrus, “I did not mean to do any of this, I did not mean to cause any of you all this grief.  I would just let them know that I did not mean to and from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry.”

Burrus’ own father has a memorial cross in the park, among the five thousand crosses there.
