Man accused of beating girlfriend; kidnapping her baby
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Corbin man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, kidnapping her 7-month old baby boy and threatening to kill it as he ran off with the child into the woods, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the child was eventually found in a ditch by neighbors. The baby was taken to a hospital in London to be checked.
Investigators say 21-year old Charles Shores was eventually arrested after an exhaustive search and tips from the public Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. Deputies say they found Shores, who reportedly was only wearing boxer shorts, at the end of John R. Jones Road struggling with people who live in the area. Investigators say after a brief struggle with deputies, Shores was arrested and taken to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office for processing and then on to the Laurel County Detention Center.
Deputies say this all began around 8:15 p.m. with a domestic violence complaint with an assault on Thea Lane, off John R. Jones Road.
Investigators say Shores choked and hit his girlfriend in the face before taking her baby and running off into the woods.
Deputies say he was charged with Kidnapping of a Minor; Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree; Assault 4th Degree-Domestic Violence; Resisting Arrest and three warrants out of Whitley County.
Deputies say one of the warrants was for failure to appear in court on charges of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon. Deputies say another warrant was for failure to appear in court on a traffic charge and that a bench warrant out of Whitley District Court was for failure to appear in court for operating on a suspended or revoked operators license and numerous traffic violations.
