Man accused of assaulting woman who was airlifted to UK

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Laurel County man is accused of assaulting a 33-year old woman, reportedly his sister-in-law, after an argument turned physical, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Investigators say the woman, whose name wasn’t released, was airlifted to UK Hospital in Lexington due to the seriousness of the trauma suffered to her head and face.

Deputies say 40-year old Michael Ray Cornette, of Lily, was arrested and charged with assault and drug charges after the car he was in was pulled over Thursday morning after the reported attack.

Investigators say someone in the car threw a container out of the window that turned out to be crystal meth.  They say they also found concealed weapons, including brass knuckles and pistols in the car.

Deputies say three other people in the car, 33-year old Alex Ricky Lawson, of Rockholds, 41-year old Shawnda Cornette, of London and Marcus Robinson, also of London, were arrested on drug and other charges.
