Man Accepts Plea Deal To Avoid Possible Death Penalty

A man accused of killing a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy struck a plea deal on Friday to avoid a possible death sentence.

Investigators said Dewayne Shipp confessed to the November 2012 murder of Deputy Anthony Rakes.

Deputy Rakes was gunned down after stopping to see if Shipp needed any help after spotting Shipp’s car pulled off on the side of a road.

Shipp is scheduled to be sentenced January 3, 2014.
