Maker’s Mark commemorative Zenyatta bottle to benefit Old Friends

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – The 2016 Breeders’ Cup Championships are 31 days away, meaning there’s only a month to order your Breeders’ Cup-Maker’s Mark® limited-edition commemorative Zenyatta bottle.

The bottle, which honors the first and only female horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, is available by visiting  www.breederscup.com/championsforcharity and making a $400 donation. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement facility based in Georgetown, KY, and the donation is tax deductible.

Old Friends, a non-profit organization, cares for over 165 retired Thoroughbreds, including Breeders’ Cup Champions Alphabet Soup (1996 Classic), Eldaafer (2010 Marathon), and Amazombie (2011 Sprint).

Maker’s Mark officials say that interested buyers need to act fast, however, as the bottles are selling out. “We have sold just over 200 bottles,” reports Old Friends founder and President Michael Blowen. “The response has been amazing, and we can’t thank the fans who have participated enough.

“We want very much to sell out this run,” said Blowen, who added that only 300 bottles will be produced and they will never be available in stores.  “It’s such a fitting tribute to the great Zenyatta and represents a perfect blending of Kentucky’s signature industries: Horses and Bourbon.”

Reserved bottles will be available at Arcadia Night: Salute to Zenyatta, on November 2 at the Gold Line Plaza, in Arcadia, CA, and at the Breeders’ Cup offices in Lexington, KY on November 16 (11 am to 7 pm).

For additional collection options contact Breeders Cup at (859) 514-9428 or Old Friends at (502) 863-1775.
