Maker’s Mark bourbon bottle to honor ’95-’96 “Untouchables”
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -To help raise funds for the Center for Academic and Tutorial Services (CATS) facility, Maker’s Mark is releasing a commemorative bourbon bottle featuring the 1995-96 men’s basketball national championship team, known affectionately as “The Untouchables.”
This year’s bottle is the third in a series of UK basketball-themed bottles, all created in a partnership with UK Athletics to raise $2 million dollars to support CATS. The first two bottles in the series featured legendary coaches Adolph Rupp and Joe B. Hall, along with the 1978 national championship team.
CATS expanded last fall into the Joe Craft Football Training Facility on the south side of campus, where practice facilities are located, and where varsity sports players at UK spend most of their time.
“The high level of achievement of our students requires a unique support system considering the time demands they face,” UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart said. “The expansion of CATS on the south side of campus has been essential to that effort, and we have this unique partnership to thank.”
Maker’s Mark will release two more bottles in 2018, and 2019 to complete the five-bottle series to benefit the CATS program.
This year’s bottle will go on sale throughout Kentucky on Friday, April 7. A bottle signing will take place at the Keeneland Entertainment Center on the morning of Friday, April 14. Details are available on www.Keeneland.com.
