Make-A-Wish and Commonwealth Credit Union partner for new Toy Closet
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Make-a-Wish used to have a big toy partner in Toys R Us. Now Make a Wish depends on community partners to provide toys for children to carry with them as they got through their treatment.
Wednesday, Commonwealth Credit Union in Hamburg opened a Make-A-Wish Toy Closet to help out. The partnership makes a big difference to the agency which grants wishes to kids facing life-threatening illnesses. Parents who have been there know how much it means.
“CCU sent Shelby a stick horse for Kentucky Derby, so she was excited to get that in the mail. She’s three and she likes anything, I mean, any kind of toy she likes,” said Stacey Young. Her daughter Shelby is in remission from leukemia.
The credit union collected 400 toys during a special drive in April to fill the closet.
“Community partners are vital in helping us fulfill our mission of granting the wish of every eligible child, and we are so appreciative of Commonwealth Credit Union. Our relationship is especially meaningful because we are united in our passion to inspire hope in the lives of these special young children, as evident in their funding, support, and hosting of the Toy Closet,” Faith Hacker, Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana Senior Development Officer, said.
