Mailboxes destroyed across Stanton; police searching for suspects

Residents respond after widespread vandalism

STANTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Signs of destruction were visible across Stanton and Powell County after numerous mailboxes were found damaged or completely torn from their posts. Police are actively searching for the suspects involved.

A trail of broken mailboxes led to residents like Jean Bradley, who shared her frustration.

“I woke up to my mailbox tore off the post, and I’ve got to fix it, and I’ll be 81 years old,” she said, “I’ve got other things I need to do; instead, I’m out here trying to fix a mailbox,” said Bradley.

Authorities say the suspects, seen in a car caught on camera, allegedly destroyed multiple mailboxes. Empty posts were seen along North Main Street and Hatton Creek Road.

“It surprised me and threw me back, but at the same time, it didn’t — just the way the world is, unfortunately,” Banfield said. “It’s just sad, and here it is closer to the holidays, and people have enough to worry about.”

Social media posts show numerous complaints from other residents claiming damage to their mailboxes. Some residents remarked that this kind of vandalism is uncommon in the area.

Jean Bradley voiced her concerns about the behavior and the legal consequences.

“What is wrong and what’s going on with these kids, adults, whoever did this?” Bradley asked, “do they realize that’s a federal offense,” she said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Powell County Dispatch. Stanton police have yet to provide additional details as the search for the suspects continues.
