Maggie’s Light spreads word, hope, love to families who lose babies

received a generous donation of a Cuddle Cot from Maggie’s Light LLC, a non-profit organization based in Georgetown, that supports and comforts families who have experienced the loss of a child.

The Cuddle Cot is a device that looks like a Moses basket with a cooling pad that is attached to a specially insulated hose that cools stillborn babies, allowing families extra time to spend with them.

The donation of the Cuddle Cot was made in memory of Paul-Michael Layne Gaines by his family. His niece, Madelyn Lou Case, was born still in 2016.

In addition to the Cuddle Cot, “Maggie’s Kits” and miscarriage kits were also donated to families. These kits contain special keepsakes and materials to help parents and families with the grieving process.

Maggie’s Light founder Emily Turner said the group is trying to “shine some Pink and Blue Light on this month,” which is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

“I founded Maggie’s Light LLC to help families that will go through similar tragedy as our family has,” Turner noted.

The Cuddle Cot donated to Clark Regional was the fourth donated to hospitals in the region.

Monday, Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather signed a proclamation making October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
