Madison County Sheriff’s Office remembers late Captain

Manley will be laid to rest Tuesday at noon at Church on the Rock on Richmond Road in Berea.

Madison County, Ky (WTVQ): A visitation was held Monday night In Berea for the late Captain Samuel Manley, with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Manley died suddenly last week.

Chief Deputy Anthony Terry said Manley leaves behind a legacy. “We called him our Johnny-on-the spot guy around here because he did so many different things, he wore different hats,” he said.

Manley worked as a Captain at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years. He started his law enforcement career at the Richmond Police Department. Then retired from there as an assistant chief. But before that he served more than 25 years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

“It’s just kind of hard to think about replacing somebody that valuable,” Terry said.

Terry had known Manley for more than 25 years. So, with Manley passing away suddenly at the age of 71, “he was my right arm. Anything we needed around the office he was willing to get for us.”

Terry says along with Manley’s wisdom he knew how to pay attention to detail. Manley created the agencies policies and procedures manual. “And of Sam’s greatest accomplishments here is that he got us to be accredited agency.”

Terry credited Manley with bring the office’s standards and training are up to par and exceed what other agencies are doing Terry says they’re one of 17 law enforcement agencies in Kentucky with this accreditation. He says Manley had an impact that reached outside of Madison County. “We’ve gotten contacted by a lot of law enforcement agencies that he had helped across the state,” Terry said. “Because he was so well versed in the accreditation process, he was able to help all these different agencies with it. Here in the near future, we’ll all be feeling it every single day even more. As we walk by his office and obviously don’t see him there.”

Manley will be laid to rest Tuesday at noon at Church on the Rock on Richmond Road in Berea.
