Madison County Schools social media threat investigation after tragic loss
Madison County, Ky (WTVQ): In Madison County, a threat that was posted on social media that turned out not to be credible. This comes after a tragic loss at the middle school last week.
Erin Stewart, the Madison County District’s Public Information Officer, says,
“There was a message that had been circulated through social media by some students that had alluded to a threat to the campus for Monday.”
She says as soon as they received information about the threat, they contacted the Richmond Police Department to investigate. “Spoke to several people …. I know that they basically deemed that, that threat was not credible it didn’t have any weight to it,” Stewart said.
She says the police department still took the matter very seriously, so, there were additional police officers on campus just for precautionary reasons.
Last week, a student died unexpectedly. Madison Middle School on Facebook saying they have experienced a tragic loss, and they will continue to work through it in the coming days and months. “Our district has a crisis response team and that team has been working at Madison Middle to make sure that student and staff who need a little extra support, a little extra love” Stewart said. “They get that right now.”
