Madison County paraeducator charged after alleged assault on student at White Hall Elementary

RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A Madison County paraeducator is facing criminal charges after police say she physically abused a student at White Hall Elementary School.

According to Richmond Police, Beverly Vanwinkle-Thompson was arrested Tuesday after a parent reported their child had been assaulted last Thursday. Investigators say video footage from inside the school gym shows the student being pulled by the hair and struck.

Police say Thompson was taken into custody at her home and brought to the Richmond Police Department for questioning. She is now charged with second-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12 and fourth-degree assault.

As of Friday morning, Madison County Schools had not issued a public statement regarding the incident. Thompson remains in custody at the Madison County Detention Center.
