Lyric Theatre to display panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lyric Theatre and Bluegrass Black Pride have come together to present panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt.

The panels will be displayed from Nov. 19 through Dec. 3 by appointment Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. As part of the final LexArts HOP of 2021, there will be an exhibit opening reception in the upstairs gallery from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Additionally, there will be a limited viewing schedule during the week of Thanksgiving. Extended evening hours will be available on Wednesday, Dec. 1 for World AIDS Day from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Quilt was made almost 35 years ago during the height of the AIDS pandemic to honor the thousands of lives lost, as well as helping others understand the disease. The Quilt was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 in recognition of its global impact.

Now, the Quilt’s 50,000 panels are displayed year-round in communities across the country.
