Lyric Theater Announces Gallery Hop Openings

The Lyric Theater and Cultural Arts Center is opening some new exhibits for this Friday’s LexArts Gallery Hop.

The first is called "African Art: A Teachable Moment," is a celebration of African sculpture.

Contemporary artists trained in ancestral traditions used original models from Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Republic of Benin, Algeria, Ghana, and Cameroon to give observers a window into the aesthetics and religious beliefs of several cultures.

The second, "Not Just a Hunting Ground: Native Americans in Kentucky," organized by the Lexington History Museum, is designed to educate visitors about the history and continuing impact of Native Americans in the state through artifacts from the Kentucky Historical Society.

Fayette County Public School’s Calendar Art Showcase will also be on display.

Every art teacher in the county submitted four of their best student art pieces to be considered for the school district’s calendar.

Those submissions will be available for viewing until April 26th.

The Lyric Theater will be open for the gallery hop from 5-8pm Friday, April 19.

Regular tour hours are Tuesday-Friday 11-5pm and Saturday 1-5pm.
