Lyon County’s Travis Perry on his decision to play for Kentucky Men’s Basketball

LEXINGTON, KY (WTVQ)- Lyon County Boy’s Basketball point guard Travis Perry will play inside Rupp Arena for Head Coach John Calipari in a matter of months.

Perry committed to play at Kentucky on November 15, 2023.

But, for now, the four-star recruit has graced another stage in Lexington. At the White, Greer and Maggard Holiday Classic, Perry and his Lyon County teammates drew packed houses while winning the tournament.

“It’s a great tournament,” said Perry “They always have some of the best teams in the state, a great turnout of fans and great people here. It’s just fun to get out there and compete in front of those fans and compete in a great city for basketball.”

The Lyons’ 83-63 championship win over the hosts, Lexington Catholic, was made even sweeter for Perry by being awarded Most Valuable Player honors. His presence didn’t just draw crowds of fans, but current Kentucky players and coaches as well.

On the first night of the tournament, Reed Sheppard, DJ Wagner, Grant Darbyshire, Walker Horn, Kareem Watkins and Aaron Bradshaw came to watch the second half of the Lyons game versus Bourbon County. Calipari was also in attendance.

Before the game tipped off, Perry shed some light on what life is like as he stays in touch with the current members of the team.

“It’s Kentucky Basketball. It’s unlike any other animal that you can tackle in the world. The hype around it is incredible,” said Perry. “There’s always the talk of wanting to win a national championship. I feel like we have good pieces that’ll be there next year and (winning a national championship) is the ultimate goal. But, right now I’m just encouraging the guys that are there and just looking forward to going to there and being a part of it.
