UPDATE: ‘Lt. Dan’ grant pays off as Lincoln SO gets new radios

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A grant from a private foundation announced a month ago has come to fruition for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
The Lincoln County Sheriffs Office is extremely thankful for the recent grant for new radios.
This $16,000 grant from the Gary Sinise Foundation has provided important new radios for the department. The radios were purchased from Southern Communications in Lexington and bring the entire department up to date with P25 compliant communications protocols.
According to the department, the new equipment includes 10 Kenwood portable radios and 10 Kenwood mobile radios for vehicles, chargers, speaker microphones,and belt clips.
“Without the support of Organizations like The Gary Sinise foundation, first responders would not have some of the most critical equipment needed to do their jobs,” the department said in a social media post while also thanking the Lincoln County Fiscal Court, Lincoln County Fire, Lincoln County Emergency Management and Lincoln County EMS for dedicating funds to upgrade the communications tower sites throughout the county, ultimately with one goal in mind, to keep the first responders safe while protecting their communities.

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A grant from a foundation created by the actor known as ‘Lt. Dan’ among other popular roles will help the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department buy needed equipment.
The department is receiving a $15,728 grant from the “Gary Sinise Foundation” which provides first responders funding for equipment.
According to the department, the grant will be used to upgrade deputies’ communications equipment. The upgrade will allow the entire department to have p25 capable radios which will provide interoperability with surrounding counties.
The equipment will be purchased from Southern Communications in Lexington, Ky.
Gary Sinise, the foundation’s creator, is a well-known actor who played Lt. Dan in the movie Forrest Gump.
