LPD: Suspect in two attacks in Lexington arrested

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police announced Friday that a suspect wanted in connection to two separate attacks on women in Lexington is now in custody.

Police say 56-year-old Marquette Adams was arrested in Berea Thursday evening.

Adams is accused of trying to steal the purse of a 76-year-old woman in the parking lot of Walmart on West New Circle Road on Tuesday. When he couldn’t get her purse, police say he cut the woman, hit her then ran off.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.

A short time later, police were called to a nearby parking lot, where an 18-year-old woman told them she was approached from behind by a man while she was on a break from work. She says the man covered her mouth and threatened her but she was able to kick him and run away.

Police say surveillance video from the West New Circle Road Walmart helped identify the suspect as Adams.

Adams is charged with two counts of robbery and is currently in the Madison County Detention Center.
