LPD: Man shot dog multiple times
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man is in custody after police say he shot a dog multiple times.
According to court documents, police were called to a home on New Orleans Court on Monday at around 6 p.m. after reports of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they say 32-year-old Jeremy Lawton gave several conflicting statements regarding a dog on the property.
According to arrest documents, witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots, then a dog whimpering, followed by a pause before hearing additional gunshots.They also told officers there was a dog at the residence earlier day where the gunshots were heard from.
Officers later found the dog suffering from multiple gunshot wounds all over the body and head. They also recovered two weapons from Lawton’s home, which he admitted to purchasing.
Lawton was arrested and charged with torture of a dog/cat with serious physical injury or death, persistent felony offender and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
