LPD: Kids’ report of attempted kidnapping false

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department says a claim by three children that someone tried to abduct them from Shillito Park was false.

Officers responded the 400-block of Newbury Way around 9:41 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a call about the attempted kidnapping.

Police say the children told them they were playing on the walking trail by the railroad tracks near their home when a man wearing a black mask, a dark hoodie and gloves, grabbed them and started dragging them towards Man-O-War Boulevard.

The children told police the man took them as far as the baseball fields in Shillito Park but they were able to get away and run home.

Police say, while interviewing the children, detectives found several discrepancies in their story.

They say they children eventually admitted to making up the kidnapping story to get out of trouble for being out past their curfew.

Police say, because of the age of the children, no charges will be filed for providing false information to the police.
