LPD: Jeep flipped, hit hydrant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — At 1:13 Friday afternoon, LPD say a jeep liberty flipped onto its top and struck a fire hydrant on Sharkey Way.

Officials say thousands of gallons of water were gushing out onto the roadway, and American Water rushed to the area to shut the water off. As of 4 p.m., the water has been shut off, and American Water says they are working to clean up the streets; the hydrant will be replaced next week.

LPD say businesses and residents in the area may lose some water pressure today, due to the excess being poured out through the broken hydrant. Customers will not lose water, LPD says, only reduced pressure.

Sharkey Way is shut down for now, say officers.

Officials say the driver of the jeep was unharmed.
