LPD: Former Lexington Hearing & Speech Center employee stole from non-profit
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A former employee of the Lexington Hearing & Speech Center (LHSC) has been charged with stealing funds from the non-profit agency.
Investigators with the Lexington Police Department say Jan R. Mauldin, 58, was arrested on Monday on multiple charges of fraud. Police estimate that Mauldin stole over $150,000 dollars from the center.
Detectives determined that Mauldin, a bookkeeper for LHSC from 2008 to 2015, used LHSC credit cards for personal expenses, including electronics, clothing, veterinary care, phone payments, gym memberships, hotel stays, limo rentals, insurance payments, food purchases, vacation rentals and more. She altered LHSC records to perpetuate and conceal the fraud.
Mauldin is charged with the following:
- Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card O/$10,000 (3 counts)
- Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card O/$500 (1 count)
- Theft by Deception O/$10,000 (1 count)
- Receiving Goods by Fraud O/$500 (1 count)
- Unlawful Access to a Computer 1st degree (1 count)
Police continue to investigate the case.
