LPD: Deadly shooting appears to be an act of self-defense

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police are calling a fatal shooting at an apartment building an apparent act of self-defense.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office says 34-year-old Shawn Michael Woods was pronounced dead following the shooting Wednesday.

Police say they received a call about several shots fired in the 100-block of Constitution Street around 6:43 a.m.

Officers arrived and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in an apartment building.

Woods was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say, based on their preliminary investigation, it appears Woods broke into or attempted to break into several apartments and was shot by a person in one of the apartments.

Kevin Taylor owns a barbershop next to the apartment complex. He says he knows the shooter.

“He did what he had to do,” said Taylor.
